Care Instructions
Step 1 – Rehydration
Your new pet slime is currently in a state of suspended animation. To bring it back to life, it will need a moist home!
- Using the spray bottle, moisten the bottom of the habitat with 10–15 sprays of water.
- Choose a cozy spot in the container for your slime to wake up, then place the “Sleeping Slime” hibernation capsule there.
- Using the pipette, drip five droplets of water directly onto the capsule.
- Place the habitat in a room temperature area away from sunlight.
Within a few hours, your slime will begin to stir, coming back to life and preparing to explore its new world!

Step 2 – Feeding
After 6–12 hours, your slime will awaken, and it will be hungry!
- Once you’ve watered the capsule, place one or two oat flakes nearby.
- Watch closely over the next several hours for bright yellow slime to ooze out from the dissolving capsule. Your slime moves slowly (about 1 cm per hour), so check back often to watch its progress.
First it will spread outward in a circle, then begin to envelop and digest the oats, turning its underside into one big stomach! As it eats, it will start to search for more food. Add a few more oat flakes nearby and see how it navigates toward them.
Step 3 – Daily Care
To keep your slime happy and healthy:
- Give the bottom of the habitat 1–2 sprays of water daily.
- If your slime has covered all the oats currently in the habitat, add 2–3 oat flakes anywhere in the container.
- Wait to feed again until all the oat flakes are covered. Do not exceed 3 new oat flakes a day.
- Use the tweezers to remove the undigested husk left behind after your slime has finished eating an oat. This will take about a week from the time the oat was first engulfed.
Your slime will crawl, climb, and weave through obstacles to find new oats. Even without a nose, it can “smell” the oats as soon as they’re placed, so watch it begin its slow-motion hunt across the landscape!

Growth & Expansion
The Weeks Ahead
Over the next several weeks, your slime will expand and eventually cover most of the habitat. When it grows large enough to fill the space, you get to decide what’s next:
- Keep your slime growing
- Return it to hibernation
- Release it into the wild
Your habitat includes two transparent tubes, each plugged with cotton balls to allow airflow while keeping your slime safely inside (even slime needs to breathe!).
Once your slime fills the habitat, it will begin exploring these tubes in search of new territory. At this point, you can choose what to do next (keep in mind you can separate your specimen into multiple individuals and do any combination or all three).
A. To Keep Your Slime Growing
Attach another Slime-O Worlds habitat, or any airtight container with a moistened absorbent substrate (like paper towel or cloth).
- Moisten the new habitat before connecting the tube.
- Make sure the new container is well-sealed; your slime is an expert escape artist!
- Continue feeding, watering, and removing oat husks as usual while your slime moves to the new container.

B. To Return Your Slime to Hibernation
To send your slime back to sleep:
- Attach another (dry) Slime-O Worlds habitat or container. Do not moisten it and leave the lid off.
- Continue feeding as usual for several days.
Over the next 10 days, your slime will gradually shrink into thick sheets, then dry into an orange crust—its dormant state, called a sclerotium. It can safely remain like this for years.
i. To Reawaken Dormant Slime
When you’re ready to wake your slime again:
- Spray the orange crust and the bottom of the container generously with water.
- Place a few oat flakes nearby.
- Seal the container.
Alternatively, you can break off small pieces of the orange crust and move them to a new habitat, treating them just like fresh hibernation capsules. Start again from Step 1. Breaking the crust into smaller pieces will not harm your sleeping slime, and keeping some pieces stored in a reclosable bag at room temperature is a great way to ensure you will always have slime ready to wake up and grow.
C. To Release Your Slime Into the Wild
If you’d like to let your slime begin its next adventure, simply remove the lid and the cotton balls from both tubes and place the habitat in a cool, shaded outdoor area sometime when the weather is between 65 and 85℉ (18 to 30℃).
Your slime will gradually crawl out over the next few days. Don’t worry, it’s a naturally occurring species found worldwide, so releasing it won’t harm the environment!
